Blackberry Salsa Recipe, Peace Love & Butter

An homage to west coast living and blackberry brambles. The late summer’s harvest makes this Blackberry Salsa Recipe a cinch. Ripe. Juicy. Deeply flavourful and a hint of heat. My favourite go-to fresh sauce for grilled chicken or salmon and blackened white fish. If bears could make it, I think they would!

Fresh, Fruity, and Just a Little Fiery

Blackberry Salsa is a sweet-spicy twist on a classic. Fresh blackberries bring deep, jammy flavour balanced by the zing of lime, a pop of cilantro, and the gentle heat of jalapeño. It’s a fresh fruit salsa that’s vibrant, unexpected, and ridiculously easy to make — perfect for summer entertaining or any night you want to brighten up a meal.

• A touch of honey or agave softens the tartness of the berries.
• For less heat, use half a jalapeño or substitute a mild chili.

Notes on Handling Blackberries

Let’s get picky on texture, shall we?! Respect the fruit. We want nice, chunky bits of blackberry here, not a smoothie.  So, please avoid food processors and immersion blenders in favour of your potato masher, or a muddler if you have one.

See those lovely little pearls of blackberry? It gives your Blackberry Salsa texture and refinement.

I’m not going to lie, mashing or muddling blackberries is a juicy, stain inducing activity. I drop my bowl in the sink for this. Even though I’m usually appropriately clothed in my kitchen apron; I don’t want to deal with the resulting stains if I can help it. And neither do you.

Delicious Ways to Serve Blackberry Salsa

This easy homemade salsa pairs beautifully with grilled chicken, salmon, or pork tenderloin. Spoon it over tacos, or serve with goat cheese and crostini for an elegant appetizer. Or just with plain old corn chips. (DELICIOUS.) It’s also a colourful topper for brunch dishes — think avocado toast or salty, cheese focused omelettes.

We paired this with salmon for our amazing Blackened Salmon Tacos. Huge hit!

Description

Fresh, fruity, and just a little fiery! This easy Blackberry Salsa recipe combines juicy blackberries, lime, cilantro, and a hint of jalapeño for a vibrant salsa twist.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries, firm and ripe
  • 1-2 green onions, finely minced
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (or to taste)
  • A small handful of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 lime, juice and zest
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Crush or muddle your blackberries in a medium bowl. We’re looking for a slightly chunky result and all the juicy goodness of the fruit.  Beware of the blackberry juice, it stains like crazy, so take appropriate precautions.
  2. Add diced onions, chopped cilantro, jalapeño, zest and juice of the lime. Taste. Add pinch of salt, as needed. Mix lightly. Serve immediately.

Notes

Storage notes: Blackberries are not known for their longevity. This is a fresh salsa, it will hold three to four days in the fridge – tops. Truly spectacular flavour.
