Larder Checklist:
• 2 cups fresh blackberries, firm and ripe
• 1–2 green onions
• 1 jalapeño
• Fresh cilantro
• 1 lime
• salt
Optional add-ins: honey, sweet red pepper, or diced avocado.
• A touch of honey or agave softens the tartness of the berries.
• For less heat, use half a jalapeño or substitute a mild chili.
• Want a chunkier texture? Fold in diced mango or peach for a more tropical fruit salsa.

Let’s get picky on texture, shall we?! Respect the fruit. We want nice, chunky bits of blackberry here, not a smoothie. So, please avoid food processors and immersion blenders in favour of your potato masher, or a muddler if you have one.

I’m not going to lie, mashing or muddling blackberries is a juicy, stain inducing activity. I drop my bowl in the sink for this. Even though I’m usually appropriately clothed in my kitchen apron; I don’t want to deal with the resulting stains if I can help it. And neither do you.

Keep your salsa fresh by storing it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to five days. The berries will soften slightly, deepening both colour and flavour — even better the next day. Stir gently before serving.
Use LOTS. Don’t wear white.

Fresh, fruity, and just a little fiery! This easy Blackberry Salsa recipe combines juicy blackberries, lime, cilantro, and a hint of jalapeño for a vibrant salsa twist.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh blackberries, firm and ripe
- 1-2 green onions, finely minced
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (or to taste)
- A small handful of fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, juice and zest
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Crush or muddle your blackberries in a medium bowl. We’re looking for a slightly chunky result and all the juicy goodness of the fruit. Beware of the blackberry juice, it stains like crazy, so take appropriate precautions.
- Add diced onions, chopped cilantro, jalapeño, zest and juice of the lime. Taste. Add pinch of salt, as needed. Mix lightly. Serve immediately.
Notes
Storage notes: Blackberries are not known for their longevity. This is a fresh salsa, it will hold three to four days in the fridge – tops. Truly spectacular flavour.
