French Dill Pickle Dip Recipe

Some dips lean heavy. Others lean bright. French Dill Pickle Dip does the latter—and that’s exactly what makes it so addictive.
Instead of relying on powdered mixes or overly rich bases, this dip pulls its personality from the sharp, briny ingredients that French kitchens love: cornichons, capers, fresh dill, and Dijon mustard. The result is creamy, tangy, and just salty enough to keep you coming back for another scoop.

Honestly, if we can have French Onion Dip, why not French Dill Pickle Dip?!

Tangy cornichon pickles are the star here. These tiny French pickles are sharper and more complex than standard dill pickles, with a crisp bite that holds up beautifully, even when finely chopped into sauces and dips. We add sharp French pickles to our regular dill and garlic pickles and a spoonful of capers and the whole mixture suddenly feels bright and layered rather than simply creamy with a little dill.

Creamy French Dill Pickle Dip

The Secret to a Bright, Tangy Dill Pickle Dip

The base is simple—sour cream and cream cheese for body—but the flavour is anything but your standard issue. I love dill, so we add fresh chopped dill, and a splash of pickle juice. That splash of flavoured vinegar lifts the entire dip so it tastes fresh, instead of heavy.

It’s the kind of dip that quietly steals the show.

A French-Inspired Dip Perfect for Potatoes, Chips, or Fish

Serve it alongside crispy smashed potatoes (try my Everything Smashed Potatoes), roasted vegetables, kettle chips, or even as a sauce for grilled fish or salmon. It also makes an excellent spread for sandwiches—particularly roast beef, smoked salmon, or simple cucumber tea sandwiches.

And like many good dips, it’s even better after a short rest in the fridge. Ten minutes allows the flavours to mingle. Thirty minutes makes it exceptional.

Briny, herbaceous, and perfectly balanced, this little bowl of French-inspired goodness proves that sometimes the simplest ingredients create the most memorable flavours.
